What is a PHO?

PHOs, or primary health organisations, are set up to care for patients and the communities they live in. They are funded by district health boards to provide health services through general practices to people who are enrolled with them.

PHOs have community members on their boards of trustees and involve their community in PHO developments. Total Healthcare PHO has three community trustees who help identify areas to focus on.

The Ministry of Health also has information about PHOs and a pamphlet, Enrolling with a Primary Health Organisation, which should answer many of the questions you may have.

If not, call us on 09 271 5371.
